In Prayer

A Parish Prayer for Pauatahanui

God our Creator,
You call your people to be a sign of your life in the world.
Make the churches of this parish, places of holiness and hospitality.
Strengthen your people to share your love.
Give us courage and vision,
trusting in your constant presence and following the examples of
St Alban, St Andrew, St Mark and St Philip.
So we pray in the name of Jesus our Saviour and Companion.
Amen

Parish Prayer Chain

The Prayer Chain is a confidential ministry. Anyone with a need may request prayer, for themselves, or on behalf of others. The prayer chain members will pray for that need. Phone the Parish Office (233 9781) for the contact person.

Blessings of a ciborium

Lord Jesus Christ,
just as this plate is incomplete without bread,
so something is missing from our lives without you.
Remind us, whenever we gather, of that trust,
and, each time bread is broken and shared,
remind us also that
through the new life you offer,
won by your dying and rising again,
your surrendering of all
so that we might receive grace upon grace,
you have met that need
and answered our emptiness.
So, then, we ask,
bless all that we offer you now -
this ciborium,
our worship and sacrament,
our discipleship,
our lives -
and use it to your glory.
Amen.

Prayer for GEOH Service lead by Irene Swadling,  29 August 2010

O God of life, of all life
And of each life
We thank you for the life
You have given us.

O God of life
Filled with your life help us to share where needs are great
Be with those affected by flood or fire,
Earthquake or drought, famine or war.

O God of light, of all light
And of each light
We thank you for the light
of this place and time.

O God of light
Filled with your light help us in this place and time
To care and cleanse, plant and protect,
Exposing where waste, pollution and greed
Poison water, air and land.

O God of love, of all love
And of each love
We thank you for your gift of love
Your assurance of love
The love made known through
The light and life of Jesus.

O God of love
Hear our prayer for love to be in us
Guiding us to value people and place
Caring in community with those who suffer
Living aware of the environment in which we share.

We offer you praise, Mother Father God
And hearts lifted high
For in the communion of your love
Christ comes close to us and we

Lacuna Prayer - For young people on a journey

God of all places and all time;
Go with our young people into this new year.
Be with them as they journey and explore.
May they know that they are in our hearts and in our prayers,

even though we may not see them so much for a while.
Keep them safe.
May all their adventures be with you as their companion
and when they return from time to time
may we learn from what they have discovered of your world.
May they find the space to meet you
In your love always
Amen.

Gardening God’s Way - Our Church Garden

First plant five rows of peas:
            Presence, promptness, preparation, purity, perseverance.
Next to these plant three rows of squash:
Squash gossip, squash criticism, squash indifference.
Then plant six rows of lettuce:
Let us be faithful to duty.
Let us be loyal and unselfish.
Let us be true to our obligations.
Let us obey rules and regulations.
            Let us encourage one another.
            Let us love one another.
No garden is complete without turnips:
            Turn up for meetings.
            Turn up with a smile.
            Turn up with new ideas.
Turn up with determination to make every day count for something good and worthwhile. Water freely with patience and Cultivate with love.
There is abundence in your garden.... Because you reap what you sow.
To conclude our garden, we must have thyme:
            Time for God
            Time for study
            Time for prayer

Prayer for men

God of Jeremiah,
We pray for men who speak your word to our community
Encourage them, enlighten them, hearten them.

God of Zaccheus
We pray for men who seek you.
Accompany them, meet them, bless them.

God of Abraham,
We pray for men who journey in hope
Strengthen them, enable them, settle them.

God of Zechariah,
We pray for elderly men as they look back on life,
Comfort them, inspire them, befriend them.

God of the boy David,
We pray for young men.
Protect them, challenge them, satisfy them.

God of the nameless thieves on the crosses beside Jesus,
We pray for men in desperate situations
Guide them, equip them, weep with them.

God of Peter the Apostle,
We pray for men who are leaders in church and society
Sensitise them, sustain them, assure them.

God of Jairus, whose young daughter was healed
We pray for family men
Help them, steer them, counsel them.

God of all people everywhere,
Equip us to be what you call us to be
In all our diversity and complexity
Wherever we are
For your love’s sake, Amen.

Ian Turner Memorial Window

The St Andrew’s Window Eternal God, may this window
always be a sign of your presence
in this house of prayer
and in our lives.

Be always near us when we
seek you here in St Andrew's.

Draw us to you,
when we come alone
or when we come with others,
to find comfort and wisdom,
to be supported and strengthened,
to rejoice and give thanks.
May Ian, in whose memory we
dedicated this window,
dwell with you in peace forever
and may all who loved him
know your peace.

May we become one with you
and with one another,
as our lives are sustained and
sanctified for your service.

In Jesus name, Amen.

A Prayer for St Andrew's Foyer

Dear Lord we plead our cause,
on behalf of St Andrew's Church,
as finance we seek to raise,
to enlarge the existng foyer,
put it in our heart with praise,
and bless each member’s true endeavour,
we ask in Jesus Name.  Amen

Marjorie Holmes

A Celtic Rune of Hospitality

I saw a stranger yestereen,
I put food in the eating place
drink in the drinking place
music in the listening place
and in the sacred names
of the Holy Trinity
He blessed my house,
my cattle and my dear ones,
and the lark sang her song:
Often, often, often
goes the Christ in a stranger’s guise,
Often, often, often
goes the Christ in the stranger’s guise.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
