Prayers & Squares - The Prayer Quilt Ministry

Chapter 398, Parish of Pauatahanui, New Zealand

Can you touch a prayer?
Can you pull it close and feel it's comfort?
You can if it is part of a Prayer Quilt.

About Prayers & Squares

Prayers & Squares, the Prayer Quilt Ministry began in 1992 at Hope United Methodist Church in San Diego, California. It is now an international, non-profit, interfaith outreach ministry with Chapters around the world.

What is a Prayer Quilt?

It is a statement of our faith and belief in God's power to comfort, strengthen and heal. Prayer Quilts are lap-sized comforters with prayers knotted into them. As each knot is tied prayers are offered for the person who is to receive the Prayer Quilt (the "recipient"). When fully tied the Prayer Quilt is given as a gift of love and prayer. Anyone who is facing a special need for prayer - be it physical, emotional or spiritual - may receive a prayer quilt provided they accept the gift of prayer in this form.

Stitching the threads into Linda's quilt The 100th quilt we made was for Nan, a member of our Parish Bryn and Tracey at St Mark's Awesome Church, tieing prayers into a small quilt for Vicar Jenny to take with her while she is on study leave overseas.

2010 Prayer Quilts

So far this year, prayers have been tied into quilts for Bea, Dianna & Geoff, Marie, Ann, Carolyn, Jaci, Jan, Doreen, Christine, Susan, Family of Pauline, Jenny, Brayden, Marie, Hilary, Linda, Pam.

Peace be within your walls - Ps 123 Chaper 623, The Prayers and Squares group in Otaki Parish, have made a piece for St Andrew's following the fire. The people of St Andrew's Manukau, St Margaret's Te Horo & All Saints Otaki have prayed for us for WISDOM, COURAGE, NEW BEGINNINGS.
On the back of the quilt is written "Peace be within your walls  -  Ps 123"

Feedback

"This is a belated response for the very, very kind thoughts and prayers you conveyed when sending the prayer quilt to us.
The quilt sent to Camberwell, Melbourne The bushfires surrounding Melbourne have touched so many.    We feel helpless, but do know that we have the best resource available at such times –  Prayer and trust in a loving God.
Please continue to pray for all the victims and families who have suffered.   Of course the rehabilitation process will be ongoing.   What a beautiful thing you have done in making the quilt!   We have been touched, and certainly appreciate your efforts by sending something tangible.
We will continue to think and pray for your group in your  special ministry.
With kind regards,
Marilyn Wilks, Prayer Quilt Ministry, The Salvation Army Camberwell

"We feel overwhelmed and humbled to have received such a beautiful gift, and are very appreciative of both the quilt, and the prayers. The quilt will be an enormous comfort to us as we mourn the loss of our beloved gift, mother and grandmother. It will be treasured forever in our family home."

"Thank you all for your contribution to this vehicle of healing and blessing."

"It was very moving this morning and we have appreciated the making of the quilt for Jane, also the speed the quilters and prayers got together to make it happen."

"What was the Prayers & Squares group doing at approximately 10.40 this morning?" "We were tying knots and offering prayers for Alan." Alan had been for chemotherapy that morning and felt unwell. He looked at the clock as he arrived home and registered it as 10.40am. He sat down and all of a sudden felt an overwhelming feeling of peace which he couldn't explain.
