Welcome to our Church

Awesome Church at St Mark's, Pukerua Bay. On a very cold, wet and windy winter day we prepared for the Holy Spirit with bubbles, greetings, balloons and finished with making lots of popcorn.

Kia ora and welcome to our parish website. We are delighted that you have connected with us, whether you are in NZ, perhaps seeking to worship with one of our 12 congregations, or somewhere else in God's world, simply wanting to know what Christians are doing.   We are a diverse parish, committed to being "church of choice, church with choice, church for community" and offering a range of worship styles of an Anglican flavour.   As you visit the website you will discover something of our dynamic and caring life, sharing in ministry together, in this beautiful part of God's world.We hope you will make contact with us in the way that is appropriate for you.

In this seasonof Pentecost, we are eagerly seeking signs of God's Spirit at work in our community, the city of Porirua, because we know ourselves to be in partnership with God transforming the world! This collect from A New Zealand Prayer Book/He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa says it all for us:
Living God, eternal Holy Spirit,
let your bright intoxicating energy
which fired those first disciples
fall on us
to turn the world again.

May God bless you richly.
Archdeacon Jenny Dawson, Vicar

SWINE FLU ON THE INCREASE

Worship needs to be carefully and graciously offered. Some congregations are avoiding hand contact at the time of the Peace and are simply acknowledging one another. That is quite acceptable. Encourage people to cough into a tissue not their hand should they then without thinking shake someone's hand.
While I encouraged Intincture [dipping the wafer into the wine] when receiving Holy Communion, I have since found that the majority of Anglican Bishops aren’t in favour of this practice and instead recommend using either well-cleaned silver chalices properly wiped or just taking of the wafer [bread] alone.  Each church will decide for itself but as the outbreak increases I would be tending toward ‘bread only’ as has been recommended by the Roman Catholic Bishops.
Whatever practice your  Parish uses it is imperative that hand sanitizer be used by those involved in the preparation, celebration and distribution of the Holy Communion.

Uphold the  Diocese and the nation in your prayers and those who have the flu.

Every Blessing

Bishop Tom
